There Is Power In The Blood
Zechariah 13:1
Zec:13:1: In that day there shall be a fountain opened to the
house of David and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem for sin and for
uncleanness.
Introduction:
A. Man has always been interested in power:
1. More powerful men is our cry.
2. More powerful machines.
a. Planes.
b. Automobiles.
c. Tools.
d. Weapons.
3. More powerful methods.
a. Always seeking better methods of advancement, and ways of getting
the job done faster and better.
B. The greatest power in Heaven or in earth is the Blood of Jesus
Christ.
I. It Has Cleansing Power From Sin
A. In the text it is called "a fountain for sin."
B. It is the only thing that can take away sin.
1 Jn. 1:7b the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth
us from all sin.
Isa. 1:18 Come now, and let us reason together, saith
the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as
snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.
C. Many detergents are on the market, but none can wash away the
minutest sin.
Illustration: John M. Wood, was a drunken bum. He was walking down
Water Street in New York City. He passed a little mission, known as
Jerry McAuley Mission. He heard music and singing coming from
within. He paused when he heard an old familiar song being sung that
his mother had sung while he was a child. The song was "There Is A
Fountain Filled With Blood." He went inside and took a seat near the
back. He listened as they sung: "There is a fountain filled with
blood drawn from Immanuel's veins, and sinners plunge beneath the
flood lose all their guilty stains." It brought back precious
memories of the long ago; he gave his heart to the Lord that night;
his life changes so dramatically that he was appointed chaplain of
the Navy.
II. It Has Pace Giving Power
Col. 1:20a And, having made peace through the blood of
his cross
A. There is a vacuum inside of us which only a right relationship
with God can fill.
B. When Billy Graham was conducting a crusade in Beverly Hills, a
leading psychiatrist, who had a number of movie stars as patients,
told him that what his patients needed was a right relationship with
God.
III. There Is Power Over Satan By The Blood
Rev. 12:11a And they overcame him (Satan) by the blood
of the Lamb�
Illustration: Napoleon called his Generals together. He laid a map
of the world before them. He showed them a red dot on the map, which
was a small country. He said, "Men I can't conquer the world as long
as that little country exists." Oh, my friends, the devil
can't take the world as long as the old old story of Calvary is
being preached.
IV. It Adds Power TO Our Prayers
Heb. 4:14,16 Seeing then that we have a great high
priest, that is passes into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let
us hold fast our profession. Let us therefore come boldly unto the
throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in
time of need.
A. In the Old Testament when the priests came to meet God at the
mercy seat they had to bring blood. Let us plead the blood.
V. It Has Power To Give Us Hope
A. Death is not the end. "We are going home to die no more" as the
old song goes. It will be by the blood.
Illustration: A man who had once been a fine Christian, but had
refuted it, came to die. He asked for his Bible. He read a chapter.
He repented and said, "I am back on the Old Rock to die."
